The Protocol Collective Catalogue at Scale
A four-stream digital products catalogue serving fintech compliance professionals, indie hackers, practitioners, and printable-product buyers. Built single-handed from architecture through deployment, then lifted to top-two-percent editorial register two months later.
The challenge
The Protocol Collective started as a working catalogue at top-five-percent register. Functional, on-brand, structurally sound. But the visual register sat at startup-template level and the buyers it was trying to reach — compliance officers paying $497 for a toolkit, founders paying $1,997 for an empire flagship — read register cues before they read copy. A site at startup register signals startup pricing. The lift had to move every single one of the 106 pages to editorial register without disturbing any of the 98 working Stripe payment links or breaking any of the existing buyer-journey flows.
The approach
The editorial chassis was rebuilt first as a single master template — welcome.html — with the full top-two-percent polish layer baked in. Drop cap on the opening lede in italic gold at five-point-six em. Marginalia in the left margin against gold rule. Mark-as-ornament dividers between major sections using the brand monogram at thirty-six pixels, half opacity. Breakout pull quote on the practice section with accent rule and tinted background. Section padding of one hundred and ninety-two pixels on desktop, ninety-six on mobile. Refined link underlines in gold at one-pixel weight with two-fifty millisecond hover transition. Hanging punctuation. Old-style numerics on Roman numeral section markers. Open-type features including kerning, ligatures, stylistic alternates, and contextual alternates. Self-hosted variable fonts — Lora serif, Inter sans, JetBrains Mono — with no CDN dependency. The master template was approved by the operator before any other page was touched. Then all 106 pages were lifted using the same chassis, with the catalogue page receiving particular care because its 92 Stripe payment links had to be preserved verbatim across the lift.
Delivery and verification
The full lift shipped in one deploy zip — 15MB, 106 HTML files all verified for closing tag integrity post-extract round-trip — to Cloudflare Pages on the second day. The operator visually verified the four polish-layer elements rendering correctly on both desktop and mobile before sign-off. Drop cap, gold accent, mark-as-ornament dividers, mobile sticky CTA bar all confirmed live.
The result
The Protocol Collective is now serving the same catalogue at top-two-percent editorial register globally. Same products. Same prices. Same buyer journey. The register difference compounds in the buyer-trust signal that determines whether a premium-tier buyer engages or moves on. The four-stream architecture (Stream 1 fintech B2B, Stream 2 Etsy mass market, Stream 3 Builder/Indie, Stream 4 Practitioner) is now visible from the homepage.
